Without productive leadership and effective management, it is almost impossible for a small business to succeed. Struggling or unmotivated business owners and managers can feel overwhelmed and helpless, but there are some great ways to
be more productive and as a result, be more successful in your business.

Being Realistic is the Solution:

Something not frequently mentioned when people talk about productivity and motivation is the need to be realistic. What you could possibly achieve daily in a perfect world is extremely different from what you can achieve in reality. There are many distractions and spontaneous issues that arise daily that can distract you from achieving your goals and make you feel even more overwhelmed than you initially were.

What happens when Your Goals are Unrealistic?:

Unfortunately for many people, they set extremely high goals and standards for what they “should be achieving” in their day-to-day work life. Now, while there isn’t a real problem with this, when you set goals continuously high and regularly fail to meet your targets, productivity can actually decrease because a constant feeling of failure sets in.

The better option is to set a realistic to-do list each day of what you hope to achieve. The best option for to-do lists is to list your goals in a prioritized order. This way, you can be sure that the likelihood of your most important tasks being completed each day is increased. After all, you are not superman or superwoman! It’s important to move forward with your goals each day and listing tasks in order of priority allows you to
be more productive by working on tasks that need the most urgent attention.

Don’t feel down over tasks that aren’t completed each day – simply move them onto the next day’s to-do list. Feeling in control of your daily schedule results in higher satisfaction and increased motivation over the long term.
